Celebrate Local Massachusetts Artists

Written by admin
Thursday, 6 Jun 2013

If you find yourself in Brookline this weekend, be sure to stop by the Devotion School in Coolidge Corner for the 35th annual Coolidge Corner Arts Festival. From 10am to 6pm on Saturday, June 8, the festival will host over 75 artists from Massachusetts working in disciplines ranging from ceramics and jewelry to painting and photography and everything else in between. A quick perusal of the participating artists demonstrates the wide variety of artistic talent on display this weekend (we’re particularly fond of the abstract, sculptural jewelry crafted by Somerville artist Dev Bennett).

While the MFA and ICA are always open for business (alongside the many other wonderful art museums throughout Boston), this is a great opportunity to see some unique local talent on display. Stop by the festival for a taste of what Massachusetts has to offer. And if you’re more in the mood for a literal “taste” of Massachusetts, Brookline will also be celebrating the sixth annual Brookline Food Festival adjacent to to the CCAF, with all proceeds benefitting the Brookline Food Pantry. With the good weather finally here, there’s a lot to experience just steps from the doors of our cozy Brookline hotel.

Thousands Gather for Boston Strong Benefit Concert

Thursday, 30 May 2013

Thousands of music fans will gather at the TD Garden tonight for the Boston Strong benefit concert. Organized as a fundraiser for One Fund Boston, a charity organization set up in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the star-studded event will host a variety of performers and musical acts.

The diverse range of artists featured at tonight’s event include Aerosmith, the Dropkick Murphys, Jason Aldean, Boston, Jimmy Buffett, Extreme, the J. Geils Band, New Kids on The Block, James Taylor, Godsmack, Carole King, and comedians Dane Cook and Stephen Wright. Many of these stars launched their careers performing in and around Boston. Though the Dropkick Murphys were not originally slated to perform, local automotive dealer magnate Ernie Boch Jr. offered to fly them in on his own private jet to ensure they’d be in attendance for the event.

Tickets sold out within five minutes earlier this month, but you can always watch the livestream of the concert, which starts at 7pm. Even if you won’t be attending, you should consider making a donation to One Fund, as they could certainly use your support. And if you’re thinking of “shipping up to Boston” anytime soon, consider a stay at our Boston bed and breakfast for a taste of old Boston charm.

The first Boston Calling Music Festival may have come and gone this past weekend, but festival organizers have already announced plans to return in September with another festival headlined by Vampire Weekend and Passion Pit. Like this past event, the fall concert will bring several national touring artists (and a few local favorites) to City Hall Plaza for two days on September 7 and 8.

If the success of this past weekend is any indication (the festival brought in nearly 20,000 attendees), this upcoming festival should be another big hit for the organizers. Other artists scheduled to appear include Kendrick Lamar, Major Lazer, Solange, Flosstradamus, and Bat for Lashes. This diverse genre-spanning lineup promises to bring a wide variety of music fans to Boston for the weekend.

Early bird festival and VIP passes go on sale this Friday and those of you coming from out of town for the concert are going to want a place to crash for the weekend.  We’re located just a short T ride from downtown, so if you’re looking for a cozy place for a reasonable price, book your room for the weekend at our Boston bed and breakfast. Memorial Day Weekend in Boston

Thursday, 23 May 2013

It’s (almost) Memorial Day weekend here in Boston and while the weather forecast doesn’t look too promising, we certainly aren’t letting that keep us down. For starters, we’ve got the first ever Boston Calling Music Festival on May 25 and 26 featuring fun., The National, The Shins, Marina and the Diamonds, and more. We may be looking at a few showers this weekend but the event promises to go on rain or shine, so grab your tickets and head on down to City Hall Plaza!

On a somewhat more somber note, visitors to our city may notice that the Boston Common has been partially transformed from today through Sunday with the Military Heroes Garden of Flags, an annual tradition in which more than 20,000 flags are planted in the Common to honor all our fallen heroes since World War I. It’s a poignant way to start your journey on the Freedom Trail, which is one of the best ways to see the sights of Boston.

Baseball fans, take note, the Red Sox are home today through Tuesday, playing a four-game series against the Indians and two games against the Phillies. There’s nothing that says springtime in Boston more than a day at Fenway Park.

And finally the Museum of Fine Arts is holding their free Memorial Day Community Weekend, promising three days of special exhibitions, art making, gallery tours, family activities, and a community art project. Admission to the museum will be completely free of charge for all visitors from May 25 to 27.

Whatever your reason for visiting our city this weekend, make our Boston bed and breakfast your home away from home.

Spring has finally come to Boston which can only mean that it’s time for the Boston Marathon! An annual event since 1897, the Marathon attracts runners from all over the world, and we’ve had the opportunity to host many of these athletes over the years at our Boston bed and breakfast. Beginning in Hopkinton, the course travels over 26 miles of Greater Boston, passing through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, and Brookline, before reaching the finish line in Copley Square.

The 2013 Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 15, known as Patriots’ Day in Massachusetts. Though the holiday was initially created to commemorate the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first military engagements of the Revolutionary War, it has become known colloquially as “Marathon Monday” due to the fact that the Marathon is run on this day each year. With the coming of spring in beautiful Boston and Brookline, this is the perfect time to visit our city.

Our two hotels in Brookline are located right on the Marathon route on Beacon Street at approximately the 23- and 24-mile markers, giving you some of the best front row seats to the action! Whether you’re here as a runner or just to cheer from the sidelines, the Beacon Inn is the perfect place to stay when visiting Boston for the Marathon. Time is running out so call us at 617-566-0088 to book your room today!
